Fire and Gold

Sorry this entry is SO LATE, but I have been traveling almost non-stop for the past few months, and I tried to blog from afar but kept having techincal difficulties. In June we once again gathered at Valerie's place, once again a group of 7 women (I swear we invite lots of men every month but they just don't come anymore!), and talked over a wonderful meal about experiences that shaped and challenged our faith. Particularly, we focused on how some people managed to maintain a core of faith despi… Continue

The May Amazing Faiths Dinner was very special for me because I got to host it at my house for the first time! I love cohosting and organizing too, but it was really great to have everyone over at my place, and have my home filled with friends, laughter and sharing. I had just returned from my superfun adventure in the Andes (check out my flickr stream for photos: www.flickr.com/photos/atoosa9, and also look at my friend Andrew's for even more cool shots from the trip: www.flickr.com/photos/andr… Continue

April Adventures in Faith

This month was full of opportunities to explore Faith and expand the circle of unity. We had another lovely, relaxing, inspiring evening of great food and conversation on April 10th as Valerie hosted this month's installment of the Amazing Faiths Dinner. This time I was the only person from the original November dinner that was there. I thought at first that was kind of sad, but then I realized there was this whole group of new people still excited about the project and determined to keep doing… Continue

Faith Inspires Art

"By the power of the Holy Spirit, working through his soul, man is able to perceive the Divine reality of things. All great works of art and science are witnesses to this power of the Spirit." (Abdu'l-Baha, Paris Talks, p. 85) This passage from the Baha'i Sacred Writings inspired me when I was growing up to view my pursuit of a career in science as a spiritual path. Many artists and scientists I've spoken to or read about also view their work as a communion with the spiritual world and take th… Continue

Fasting and Feasting at the March Amazing Faiths Dinner

So April is upon us, and being the slacker blogger that I am, I have not yet told you guys (all 7 of you that read this blog, that is!) about our March Amazing Faiths Dinner Dialogue. It was once again a unifying, eye opening evening of laughter and sharing, poignant moments and delicious homemade food. We used the dialogue questions on Love and Faith that we were sent last month, and they worked beautifully to stimulate open and heartfelt conversations. I learned so much, as usual, and felt so… Continue
